The wallet has been discovered - it was in a blender - I took the blender to the getaway place to chop zucchini and next year I don't even think I'm going to plant zucchini - if I do, it will be one plant at the most - too much zucchini is a waste of effort - chicken feed it was it becomes when over abundant.
Anyhow - my wife found my wallet and who am I without her?
I think I'll make the list here of what was in my wallet - that way I know I can find it assuming the internet works and even if it don't, I have the list:
1. Credit Card from WellsFargo
2. Credit Card from Citibank - associated with Costco
3. Credit Card from Lowes.
4. Health Equity card for health expenses and paid for by virtue of a health account funds were deposited fair and square.
5. AAA Card.
6. Various health insurance cards.
7. "Access" card to bank account.
8. I can't remember the rest.
~~~
OK - after a quick skim, I don't think I need any of those cards and so maybe tis time to start cancelling accounts with entities that are not trustworthy.
#6 - well....I'm not sure what to do next...I'm befuddled in a manner with regards to this wallet that disappeared. I still think it is around somewhere close.
I haven't decided about the Citibank card cause, if you check, you can get bounty towels there at Costco pretty low price relatively speaking versus other establishments, but I'll tell this little anecdote that sort of informs my sentiment presently.
~~~
Using a cloth hand towel that can be washed sometimes makes more sense than a paper towel destined for the trash. I came to realize this on the cabinet job when there were times in the sequence of work the cabinet doors stripped of all hinges and handles needed to be wiped cleaner....to use paper towels for that purpose is wasteful. Likewise, and maybe more importantly, when I was putting down the "loose-tile" threshold pieces (shown in an image somewhere on this Substack), I realized using a simple cloth towel to collect the excess thinset and for wiping the tiles clean worked so much better than trying to use paper towels.
~~
So really, the more I think about it, rather than renewing those cards for my wife and I, maybe it would just be better to learn how to use fewer paper towels. Sometimes they are most helpful and they have value no doubt, but I think the way I have been using them in the past is wasteful, so chalk that up to another lesson learned by virtue of a wallet disappearing.
OK - Step #4 completed. I just paid $17 to get a replacement drivers license. I reckon if I get pulled over, that will be in the "systems records"......one funny thing during the process, was I had to go through this "voter registration" sequence of questions, but I got through those without too much trouble and I saved the file of the document that was created.
~~
Oh boy - what a pain in the butt....and the other thing, I have used this system before, and there were payment methods in there, but those methods were associated with the credit cards discussed above which presently are "locked"....so, I had to enter in another payment option, but it wasn't difficult and in a way it probably makes more sense to pay that way direct and "keep the middle man out of it"......in fact, something tells me these credit card companies will not be able to survive if customers such as myself, who pay in full monthly, decide to abandon the whole concept of credit cards.
~
Seriously - that is something to think about and another thing I've learned, or at least in a more "sharpened" manner by virtue of my wallet disappearing....life is a mystery I reckon.
Step #3 - ok, I've been trying to "hold" or cancel the "Lowes" card but obstacles seem to be the story of the day and I reckon I'm just going to have to visit a store local and express my desires in person because the online system seems to no longer be functional.
Step #1 completed after consultation with my wife. Citibank card is "locked". I wanted to cancel the damn thing but got stuck in discourse with bots and dimwits and so I just locked it for the time being - I'll cancel it later.
One down and a bunch to go....
It ought be easy to cancel a credit card one would think....?
Don't surprise me it ain't being how impersonal things are these days with bots all around and such.
You know it doesn't take long for "unsettling" things to become "disheartening" if it tis one unsettling thing after another, but small-scale that is not the case even though "large-scale" apparently it is Bert.
Time for some better ideas is what I think and I'm not kidding around.
I didn't take any aspersions with respect to what you expressed cause usually it has been the same for me, but seriously - this time feel different.
Something important is about to happen and I think we all need to have our wits about us for the sake of better times in the future.
We are adjusting our assets with this in mind and have been since all of this started. We recently left town for a weekend and found my debit and spending card had been shut down. I guess we were supposed to tell the bank first, thankfully we keep cash with us when we travel for that very reason.
Things are changing real fast, we need to have a plan B that is multifaceted.
Hey - I just "cancelled" the Citibank card even though they make it harder than it ought be - no easy number to call and the one I found seriously asked me for my social security number so I bailed on that call and locked the account and really what does it make you feel like doing when you are in a "club" you want to leave and they make it hard? Does Citibank and effing Costco for that matter being this is the card they are affiliated with think they are effing "California". When I decide to depart an entity I make up my mind swiftly and if you think you can keep me from departing you got another thing coming. So, this is why I give a negative vote all around the to the Citibank card, their customer service, and Costco I reckon by viture of affiliation with an account that seems to think they can keep you from cancelling. Well, I reckon tis a battle of will now and I play to win.
We too have cut ties with Wall Street Credit Cards and bank locally. So far it is working pretty good. They like having you with easy credit, trackable transactions, and lots of debt.
I hope you find it! I do admire your attitude about it though. I always think how would I call my credit card company if I ever lose my card since the number is on the back of the card? Yes I think it’s time to get rid of some of those. I have been successful at exclusively using cash lately. I’m trying to contribute to the “use it or lose it” crowd. The salsa looks yummy and so colorful...hard but rewarding work in that.
I know what I'm going to have to do because the wallet seems to be hopelessly lost. I will go to each account online and there must be a place there for folks such as myself who lost their wallet to say - cancel the account or maybe send something else....hells-bells, but my plans have changed unexpected, but I don't mind.
I've got a few jars of salsa here that were vacuum sealed, but there was "debate" amongst the family as to whether the cilantro would hold its flavor - I won't say what my view was on this because it was amongst family.
I will say that I'm very fond of cilantro and the flowers the plant produces - white and gentle easy - with another spice beckoning....you know....you know ...
ha, ha.
ok.....I'll tell....I think it is called coriander or some such...
You are a living example, Ken of an adage I have used for longer than I can remember: "It's not what happens to you...it's how you react to it". Wallet trouble hit me some months ago when I went to London and it never left my pocket except held hard in my hand at times. Having lived in SA for 10 years I am pretty well aware of security.
Yet a few days later one of my credit card companies phoned to say they noticed unusual payments recently and stopped them. They confirmed that the card had been skimmed with a card reader at some stage during my trip. I now have a new wallet screened for RF - Lesson learned!
Some of my clients in the past have been coy about admitting to mistakes or errors saying that it made them feel stupid. But I always reply that doing the same thing time and again, and expecting a different result is actually the stupid thing. I advise that making mistakes is naturally human and admitting to it is the way we learn and grow in stature.
It helps others too as you have proven Ken - thank you for sharing :-)
I'm not gonna let a lost wallet ruin my day like it might have in the past. I'm going to learn from the experience and truly I might just lighten my load because of this....
I know that damn wallet is "out there" somewhere - I just don't know where it is and as each moment goes by I care less because money is NOT what is fundamental in my life and I'm not too proud to admit I lose things, but I try to learn always nowaday and lately it has become evident to me that some big changes are on the way as I suspect you already realize.
Yes indeed my good friend Ken. And just so you are not alone my wife put all her rings in a spectacle case and now, like your wallet, it is MIA. I have searched our tiny '2up-2down' rural cottage whilst we pack for our departure and no sign of it. It is in the hands of the Gods now Ha ha!
One time some rings and other items of value my Mother-in-law left her daughter, who happens to be my wife, likewise in a single pouch.........one time the pouch was suddenly nowhere to be found and we searched hard for several days I recall. But then, I can't remember how far after the pouch was lost, it was discovered in a place my wife swore she had already looked.....funny how things like that happen sometimes.
So, I hope the case is found, but more than likely if not, then it was packed up without it being realized and the rings will show up....later unexpectedly - that will turn the day into a better one than it would have been already I reckon!
Just like I have a feeling my wallet is going to "show up", but it still is a bit of a hassle getting things situated - I mean I need to replace my driver's license I guess - as for the credit cards, I haven't decided yet what the final fate will be for them - either way, this has sort of forced my hands in some ways, but it also necessitated some discourse twixt my wife and I as to what really matters and fiscal considerations we ought to go ahead and put in place.
So, in a bizarre way, there has been some value in my wallet "disappearing".
Ha ha - Ken - yes I feel the same way - in God's time I guess - what will be, will be. I think the French say: 'que sera, sera'. It is as it is written and i must accept this.
I suspect her trinkets are worth way more than what was in my wallet - I think it is important that they are found and I hope they are prior to your Plan B departure.
For me Ken, it is of no concern, but for the ladies, they seem to be attracted to shiny things - only Gods knows why! To me they are just material dross.
But her-indoors drives me mad because she never puts things back where they belong - like car keys! Have 3 mins of true fun! :-)
So sorry Ken. The salsa looks great. Now you have to replace all that was in your wallet. Are you sure you didn’t drop it at chick filet. God that’s awful. Love your neighbor
It has been suggested I give the chick filet establishment a call and I guess I will do that, but the thing is Marty - I ordered while in my vehicle, I never opened the door, I paid with a credit card, and the wallet remained with me - so it seems almost impossible that somehow the wallet was lost there.....but just to close any possibilities I'll probably call them to be told "No".
I could bore with the details of the "search effort" (and it is ongoing), but after awhile I figured - I really need to clean my car anyhow, so at least that task was done even though the wallet was not found in the most likely place it would have been.
I'm gonna make a list of everything I had in the wallet - I'm pretty I know and I don't care about the fiat currency.....and there may be some things I decide to go ahead and cancel for good because who needs the hassle of credit cards, debit cards, health insurance and the rest of it. So, when all is "said and done" I'm sure this event will be part of the tapestry of my life and for that we all must know - some tapestry is not woven easily.
I should know better, but this is the message I just sent my wife:
~~~
Pam - so it was "me" against the bots and all I had was your card, so your card is now closed.
Mine apparently is still "open" but it is "turned off".....pisses me off what Citibank has done on this and my card will be cancelled soon enough and then I reckon we are done with Costco.
I got the pepper planted today and tomorrow I will get to the cabinets and I'm pretty sure there are better places to shop than Costco and Amazon for that matter.
The wallet has been discovered - it was in a blender - I took the blender to the getaway place to chop zucchini and next year I don't even think I'm going to plant zucchini - if I do, it will be one plant at the most - too much zucchini is a waste of effort - chicken feed it was it becomes when over abundant.
#5 - OK - slowly but surely this is getting taken care off - new "HSA" cards requested.
I hadn't checked in awhile and the balance in that account is down a fair amount - dental procedures, let me tell you can be costly!
I lose mine all the time and usually find it where I last left it, so far.
Me too, but somehow this time feels different Bert.
It is very unsettling. I recently lost my debit card at a gas station ⛽️, but got it cancelled before any damage was done.
I didn’t mean to make light of your situation, just making fun of myself.
