With that said, I can say definitively, I did not use any sort of chemical on this year's crop for the purpose of deterring critters and that includes effing aphids. I'm sure the aphids are out there, but the birds in my garden keep them in check.
Not sure what you mean by "organic deer spray" although I've heard rotten eggs deter the doe and buck as well.
Of course, a six-foot fence helps. If a doe or buck jump over said fence, in the future I'm thinking, I will do a "trade" with the deer community - they mess up some of my plants or consume them and I get some venison in return - there is a balance of course, but if the deer are eating the crops, then tis only fair that some of the deer get to be a meal for the farmer and such.
At our other home in Charlotte, NC deep in the forest that mostly remains....there are so many deer around here - more than there ought be. I've seen groups of 8 doe and maybe even more than that prancing around in our backyards - they like my neighbor's backyard cause she basically doesn't "fiddle" with any sort of landscaping and her place in natural and our lots in the neighborhood are about half acre each on average and so the deer have a role to play in our neighborhood, but seriously sometimes I wonder if I had a bow and arrow or better yet a big net I could drop upon them and get some good venison after some serious pounding of the gamey meat......I think I would do it if I was hungry. No doubt on that.
Thing is if folks start getting hungry collectively, I can about assure you it would be just a heartbeat in time and then all the deer would be gone like that, and then folks would be wondering - what are we going to eat next?
I remember one time recent I was part of something unusual when there was but a single doe walking out there in the big forest and I saw her before she saw me and I went to a spot where I knew she would likely emerge and sure enough there she was and I looked at her serenely and said to the "teenage doe" - "what the hell are you doing all by your lonesome in these woods"......she was a fine doe and she listened intently as I talked to her serenely and then she nimbly changed her mind and turned back around in the other direction so that she was not all alone and that is all I wanted for her....cause a fine doe out by her lonesome in the forest is most precarious for the doe.
There is too much uncertainty these days if one is going to live in an area with high population density of humans - not that this is not potentially sustainable, it is just some elitist have gotten into their harmful heads that there are too many "useless eaters" and what they don't realize is that they are the ones putting a target upon themselves because some of us peasants know - "we know", and we know these elitist harmful are nothing but a temporary stumbling block on the path of Mutual Aid amongst humans who love our children. So at the end of the day, the elitist have gotten themselves in a corner of their own making.
Hand me the knife please - I'll do the deed that must be done.
Sounds reasonable to me, and echos much of what I believe. We need to learn self defense and self proficiency. Eventually those who don’t will get hungry and start looking for food.
Let me ask you Bert - are you in Iowa? Where do you reside Bert if you live in the us of a - it is high time some of us likeminded take the reins and steer the place where we want it to go, so Bert please tell me where you reside.
No chemicals, one of the ingredients is hot peppers 🌶️. I read okra and marigolds helped deter some pests so I mingled them in with my squash and pumpkins, it did not seem to help. Next year I am moving them to another part of our property and planting them later to see if that deters them. In Iowa they don’t have them and their pumpkins are huge.
Now if you happen to meander into Wichita Kansas, can you tell the Koch brothers for me - at least the one still alive - that I don't appreciate their ideology and I think they are Kansas wrong. Just like Dorothy and her miscreant dog.
Drive thru there sometimes but seldom stop, just for gas. Those guys were sure a disappointment politically. Thankfully Dorothy and Toto stayed out of politics.
If you answer yes - you got the wrong answer cause it is the Missouri and Kansas rivers that flow into Kansas City - literally on the border they connect - that is not a coincidence.
Grew up on the Kansas side and Moved to the Missouri side. Had a chance to marry a country girl and took it. Went from city boy to country man. Have some acreage, critters, and a good sized garden. Life is good.
Great looking peppers. I use an organic deer spray that they do not like, serves two needs.

Good idea with the barter and the deer. Sound fair to me.

Kansas City area but rural. Born in Iowa.

Kansas City Missouri or Kansas City Kansas - either way they are basically the same bound by the river I reckon on Kansas City?

Doesn't the Mississippi go through Kansas City?
