Now there are two kinds of Carolina girls - to keep it simple I break em up as South and North. You got South Carolina girls - so sharp - so witty - oh lordy - tell me bout it. Then you got the lassies from North Carolina - so swift - so ruthless - so perty! I like them better just to be honest - the lassies from North Carolina - but that is just me! I just prefer a petite perty North Carolina girl over them sharp-tongued ones from South Carolina - but to each their own I reckon.
Now the young lass in the song video above - played her tunes at the Mansion - she just seriously reminds me of North Carolina!
Watch out for predators Ken, we had terrible problems with foxes and once lost the whole flock even though we had strong fencing (they burrow under), and a good henhouse. These critters are very clever! We needed to go 2 metres underground to stop them!
My Buff Orpington chicks (along with a "surprise chick") are scheduled to arrive in early July - they had a serious backlog of orders at the farm - I ordered them like six months ago I think.....but the timing turns out to have been better for me since I didn't realize I was going to be so busy to start off this year.
~
Assuming the chicks make it to "hen-hood" I will heed your council and try to setup a proper and safe and healthy place for them where they can be protected and comfy and lay their eggs with joy!
Good stuff Ken, we learned the hard way! I am ashamed to say that I did hunt these foxes with my 375 telescopic and with a neighbour who suffered the same fate that night. We were angry and looking for revenge. I know it's not fair or right now, but in 1988 it was the way of our rural community.
We also 'lamped rabbits' on our pickup and good eating it was too. I used my grandmother's recipe for rabbit pie - magnificent - so no worries about killing for food - BUT not for sport IMO.
OK - Peter - after all this time I take those words as a test of my ability to discern - and mind ya - I put out a warning verbally today to the community with respect to any foxes, racoons, bobcats, kitty cats, dogs of all sorts and all other critters including humans that put any harm upon the chickens I have in my yard - I said out loud - if you do it don't be surprised if a swift bow comes upon you and then I will skin you alive for trying to hurt my chickens.
~
OK - ready - here we go - in order and on the fly:
~
Some slap chippy fella came to tell me something and I said - Ag no you skinner. I got a lekker full of plans and it is kief in my heart...so just now don't do what you are thinking - an Indaba is what we need - and lets do it during a Braai...so shame on you for trying to shame me for defending my chicks - it gives me eish you would do that and no Biltong will be giving to you nor Boerewors - so Sharp to you mate! Is it just dop you care about or Jolling around in Shebeens - Sho't Left you need to go - get off my porch you imposter!
Ha ha Ken you got our lingo good and proper - an excellent example! Keep you eye on the birds though Ken, and think about a cock later on to get some good little ones.
