So I went back to another post of mine on this stack - sometimes it is good to read what you thought back awhile....and at this link there was a picture I wondered about the "red tint" within: https://buffaloken.substack.com/p/ghosts-and-garlic

Now reason I'm posting this here is twofold - one is to say it gives me pleasure and I learn when I go back and read what was already written and two - can you figure out the "blue tint" in the image above - the image with the dried zucchini on the countertop - can you figure out the blue tint? Well, I'll give a clue because to be honest I can't figure it out either, but there was a peach on a window sill and that is the circular object in the vicinity of the blue tint.

I don't think I'm gonna have another update until there are more peppers growing - so till then - "may the sunshine be upon your back".

Lovely pics Ken, thank you. I still haven't figured how to put pics in this damn comments thread. I guess I will have to make space in one of my own Letters!

Haven't checked the beans recently, but some of my salads are peeking through! I live in hope. :-)

P&S: If you can imbed an image in the comments, "that is news to me". I think at some point SubStack ought to make it fairly easy to have "italics" and "bold" in the comments, and I suspect there is a way to do it, but it seems like it ought be easy, so I'll wait! Just like I'm waiting on my peppers - which are behind, but are working hard to make a come back!

Good to hear from you!

Good to hear from you too Ken. I dare not check my beans yet but when/if they prosper after planting in early June, I will make a slot in my Letter soon, with a photo I hope. (My old and trusty digital Canon packed up recently so I'm relying on my wife's smart phone, which takes great photos but we haven't yet figured out how to email them to my PC!). It's techy troubles here all the time!

You are quite right Ken, Substack doesn't allow italics or bold and no photos either - they need to fix this. I will email Substack; they have a great techy team.

Hey P&S - do you know what the beauty is of a photo? One aspect of the beauty? One can go back in time see what was presented and then compare that against the future. Now I could go back to some of my earlier images regarding my garden ambitions and try to pick out the individual plants that now are growing in the soil, but what is the point of that. What matters is plants are growing, so fret not about the beans and if it is South Africa where your Plan B takes you, then I hope you know I might come visit you there just as easily as coming down south from Liverpool with respect to where you reside presently.

Warm Regards,

Ken

ps - I hope I'm correct about "Liverpool" but I think that is a place we discussed previously and fine directions were provided.

pss - SubStack could make many improvements, but all in all, I think it is a fine place. I have no idea what happened to the money I sunk into it, and maybe I should check that out.

psss - did you know, there was a fund from "Van Eck" - it was called RSX or some such, invested in "Russia" proper - well I have apparently been the victim of theft because all the fairly invested funds I had in that entity seem to have been stolen. This is not fair, and just like funds from the Canadian Trucker supporters (small-scale individually), and the sovereign nation of Russia (a large-scale country) - a proud bear indeed - have been stolen, so were the funds stolen from me invested fairly, properly, and with no ill will.

pssss - there is going to be hell to pay.

Ah, back again Ken after a good night's sleep. Yes, by all means come and visit us in Simons Town where we will living at the end of this year. Our personal goods are being shipped on September 18 and it takes Pickfords 3 months to get groupage to Cape Town - hence we will fly out mid November. I will updated you on addresses etc and you can always contact me on my private email: peteru999@gmail.com

You seem to have been unlucky about investing in Russia as all accounts have been sanctioned since Feb 2022 - UK is the same. However your investment appears to be an Exchange Traded Fund. I found this " Looked at over a short period, the Market Vectors Russia (RSX) exchange traded fund by Van Eck Global has decoupled from oil year - to - date."

The fund was closed and you should have been paid in January 2023?

https://www.vaneck.com/us/en/investments/russia-etf-rsx/overview/

NOTA BENE: Your kind pledge to me will be actioned when I start the 'paid' voluntary option in the coming weeks Ken. My Letters will always be FOC but I will be charging for my book Part 2 which I am writing at present and will be serialising on Substack soon. The Introduction is here (16 pages):

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/358116877_THE_FINANCIAL_JIGSAW_-_PART_2_A5_Update_V1_-_2020

Hope this helps Ken,

P&S - I've downloaded the citation above you have shared freely. It was and is an "ris" file, so not sure about that, but I'll look it up and figure out how to read it....if there is difficulty doing this, I'll let you know.

Resolution in pictures is important, but principles are principles and once they are settled upon individually they must be inviolate for the sake of ones spirit.

When I type that, after I read it, I'm not sure why I typed it but maybe I feel a moment has arrived for a principled stance. I want you on my side and I hope you feel vice-versa.

Always on your side Ken - never fear, I need your gardening expertise for my new project, my book Part 2. BTW my beans are finally making progress, but the rest, spring onions, radish, turnips, spinach all failed. So I will re-seed next week (a but late but whatever).

I will be serialising my Part 2 book on a separate Substack soon and will include the vital 'Garden Monitor' as a section for surviving in the New Economy.

P&S - in January 2023, but a teeny tiny small "dividend" (?) payment was made to holders of the aforementioned RSX - less than 0.1% of the value inherent if memory serves. Basically it appears to me the funds have been stolen literally but supposedly it could be many years before there is any final accounting. I'm none too pleased, but such is the fate of funds these days I reckon in the hands of the central banking cartel. Bottom line though: I don't trust the banks whatsoever - just like the medical establishment has lost all trust so have the big banks. No wonder faith in fiat is rapidly diminishing.

Good Luck on your Plan B - I'm happy we have our "getaway" place here. And yes indeed, I happily await when I can be a paid subscriber at your place. I've limited myself to 16 SubStacks and eventually I intend on being a paid subscriber to ALL of them - it is my choice and a way for me to support others of like mind!

Peace,

Ken

ps - (I can't resist and this is totally off-topic but harmless) - speaking of "Teeny Tiny", there is this game "Teeny Tiny Town" it is a simple but well-designed game....my top score on the base map is now is #6 out of 40000, and I only discovered the game a few days ago - I enjoy games of this nature - helps one keep their mind sharp.

pss (Edit after I just edited my post) - I just added an image of some of the zucchini picked so far. Today, I plan on drying it out because there is a "ton" more growing and I have to figure out a way to concentrate and jar this for the future. I'll provide updates on my progress.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Here is a link to the game.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ShortCircuitStudio.TeenyTinyTown&hl=en&gl=US

Apparently google, I mean alphabet has it as well as iOS. Meta probably got a version as well.

I played this other game called “Finished” about a year or so ago - I was the undisputed champion. After having the top score 10 days in a row, a game loses interest and I’m sure there are better players there now. I was the best at “Finished”. Posted a comment saying as such, but then I deleted the comment and moved on to new challenges.

Love the game Ken, thank you - I only wish I could spare the time - it looks fascinating and likely based on 'Civilisation" I guess.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

I shouldn't do this but I will anyhow even if I know it might "skew" the results. But after I played that teeny tiny town game a few times I realized a moment was reached when if I wanted a "higher score" I would have to bulldoze all that I had created prior. This is contrary to my way of thinking, but being it is just a game, and the bulldozers were still "cheap" at that time, I bulldozed carefully and then scored about another 500000 points to get to #6 - which, I haven't checked, but there is only one direction that top score is going to go - lower....duh!

I'm working on another map presently, it has a water body in the middle - 2 x 2 - this is my first play of it, and when I finish I will submit my score. That for me will be a learning opportunity.

I play to win.

Many thanks Ken - there's much 'psss ' to cover here! Thank you for your kind appreciation of my Plan 'B' - much more to come on this in the weeks ahead. In the meantime I want you to know how much I appreciate our great relationship.

You are so right about those captured images of yore - I share them often with my family. It's late now and time for supper, so I will get back to you in the morning as I have more to chat about!

Glad to see it’s going well

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Marty - it is not going as well as last year, but from one year to the next I plan on learning.

Looking forward to making some salsa with you soon because it is going good enough for that.

You should see the flowers on the cilantro plant. They are small, white, tender, and sweetly beautiful. Maybe they have some spice to offer up and seeds for the future.

(if not me, then who will you share your recipe with? - ha, ha!).

Looks like you are having some success. Bone dry here so watering by hand from the pond. Beets, Onions, and Cucumbers 🥒 so far here. Sunflowers are producing and the beans are flowering. Potatoes will be done in another week or so. Like you, I give it away to family, friends, and neighbors.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Bert - that sounds awesome. I hope to improve my skills over time based on "lessons learned" and of course the weather plays a big role. One mystery for me this year is what happened to the cucumbers and why the okra has done poorly while at the same time the zucchini is flourishing and the yellow squash doing well. My working theory is that the weather was too cold early in the season and the cucumbers/okra suffered, but I haven't researched this - I will, but for now I'm mainly happy that the peppers are finally growing nicely.

Warm Regards,

Ken

Big rain today, almost 2 inches.👍🤗

It is an inexact science and seems to change every season. If I try something and it does not work, I try something else. Nature is a friend and adversary at the same time in gardening. The Japanese beetles 🪲 have found their way into my garden. Working on a natural fix for that.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

We discovered beetles in our garden as well. If you have a natural remedy, please share it here if you can. My wife already started researching this, but nothing found yet.

Bert Powers's avatar

I recently mixed a batch of onion, garlic, and Cajun spices into a spray that had them on the run but it finally rained so not sure of the long term effectiveness. Not sure that they have any natural predators here. I’ll keep you posted.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Hmm - could be I have the pepper ingredient for that already from the 2022 crops already concentrated into powerful pepper juice. Maybe that could be one use.

Thanks and I'll share any news/findings on the beetle situation if the beetles become a bigger problem - just now they seem to only be a nuisance.

Ken

Bert Powers's avatar

They like to eat our roses too. The rain here has stopped for now so I will get them sprayed this morning and go from there.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

OK, I think I have “finished” my drying zucchini experiment. I’ll keep it simple: to use an air fryer to dehydrate zucchini is a waste of energy - it doesn’t balance. So, there must be another way. Maybe just leave ‘‘em in the sun? What about when it rains?

Either way, this has been a good hands-on learning experience for me.
