So, I mean I typed "no comments" (at the top above in the article) but you understand don't ya - you can't always take things literal - sometimes you got to read twixt the lines and you want to know what it takes to do that proper: awareness of commonweal would be my response. Commonweal is important - it is community - it basically is all that matters.

I play to win, but I know I don't always win and that is why I play better than you if you think you always do! If you think, you always win, come to my place and let me prove you wrong!

Seriously - winning ain't that big of a deal, but old ideas, there can be no denying, ideas from the 20th century, let there be no doubt - these ideas don't die easy but die they will.

It is most likely not going to be till the end of 2023 fore the pee-wee story finishes - assuming I got anything to say on the matter.

With Respect but Determination so strong you might not realize just how far in the hole some of us been..I remember..we are mean rabbits if we have to be, but there ought be no doubt some spirits got gumption and intent and I give spirits heed when they ring true like a sweet whistle of the bird been in the garden trees and bushes by Garden #2 the last few days - I got a look upon her, and I'll never tell except I'll tell this - she had a grey-whitish breast and that bird could whistle a tune fine. It might of been a "he", but it makes no matter to me - I respect a tune well presented with nuance and I also like playing hide-n-seek with a bird so talented.

Life is good - is it not?

My runner beans have just peaked through in their pots after 28 days! (I thought they were dead). I can't believe it has taken so long, Ken. They are in the sun every day (we are having a rare sunny period). It has never happened to me before after 30 years! - 2 weeks max for germination?. Something isn't right this year - I will update you as the season unfolds.

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

What matters is they have sprouted - truly that is what matters ain't it.

The peppers, some of them, seem to have shaken off the aphids, and I'm expecting and hoping these plants are gonna make some pepper mean and truly fearsome if I must be honest about it and share my sentiment the way I think it.

UPDATE: We have have had fine sunny weather lately and it's warming up. Of my 15 bean pots, I have only 5 barely showing, one is racing away (1"), but the other 4 look quite sick just poking through. I am leaving them in the sun and hoping fingers crossed.

P&S - I thought better of it and deleted the up-close image of my tooth abscess, but I know it was on the web published official for about 2 hours, so somebody got it and if my dentists messes up with the root canal procedure and I end up dead, well....at least I published some evidence already....ha, ha.

I'm telling you the pain was truly excruciating before the pus finally find somewhere to go and release the pressure building up so...this is how things usually work, but the photo was a bit gross and a bit too close up if you know what I mean.

Good luck to your beans - the weather here has not been conducive to growth, but most of the plants are still hanging in there and I remain hopeful and I hope my dentist gets the job done this time. Pain is tiring.

So sorry to hear of your suffering Ken. I have had similar in my long life, My prescription for tooth ache (which is dreadful) is Brandy + cloves. Wash it around the tooth for as long as possible (cloves are a natural pain-killer and clove oil was used by my mom).

If it still hurts - drink the bottle and forget all about it! Not long ago I had a molar break and leave a sharp edge which caused a painful ulcer which I thought might be canker. The dentist filed it down but it didn't go away. Back to the dentist (an old very experienced soldier) - he said that the tongue is 'traumatised' because of the broken tooth and it will have to come out.

I didn't believe him (never heard of such a thing) and carried on with the Brandy for 4 weeks. In the end I had to have the damn tooth out (which was difficult and painful for a week) but the Brandy helped. The ulcer went away in 24 hours! The older I get the more I realise how much more I have to learn!

The one bean is up, but has stopped growing at 2" and 3-4 are poking through but have also stopped. I don't understand what's going on and experienced local gardeners are saying the same - nothing on the Net. I am getting suspicious - maybe they are GMO seeds? It's been sunny and warm for 10 days now.

I will report at the end of the week. I send my prayers for your early relief.

Blessings

P&S

It is Memorial Day here in the US of A, and for most it is a holiday from work. As I mentioned in my other response I just made, I'm concerned about your reports regarding the beans....do keep us posted on how things go.

Since it is a holiday here, I figured I would share with you more details on my recent "tooth experience" (the good news is the pain has now diminished, but the root cause has not yet been treated). Anyhow, I know just about everybody has tooth troubles on occasion - I've actually been rather fortunate in this regard. A few cavities, a cracked tooth that had to be capped one time after I bit into a barbeque bone when I was chewing too fast.....a few other things, but nothing ever too serious or long-term painful. Anyhow, I hope you don't mind this tale......but sometimes sharing about painful experiences is a way to mitigate the pain....especially if the sharing is a 2-way street.

~~~here is the "tooth tale" from Ken~~~~
So, a few months ago I could tell I had one tooth (bottom left molar) that was starting to be sensitive to temperature and when I went for my normal cleaning the dentist said basically - "lets dig around in there and see if there is decay". The pain at that time wasn't too bad and it seemed like digging around might not be a good idea, so I decided to wait. Well needless to say after another month or two the sensitivity (to temperature mainly) wasn't getting any better and if anything was getting worse, so I relented and went back to the dentist. He dug out the old cavity and commenced to digging out "more decay than he has expected" (is what he said while he complained about my "small mouth" - even though most people would say I have a "big mouth" - I guess it is small in size....). Anywho, after a most unpleasant procedure the new larger cavity was in place and I hoped that was the end of it - if so, no big deal really.
Unfortunately, after that procedure, the pain initially seemed to be even worse, but I waited it out and then the sensitivity to temperature went away and that seemed like a "good sign" to me. I'd been having some sinus issues all along and so I attributed the continued soreness I felt to that and perhaps wishfully hoped that the new pain associated with chewing was just temporary. After about a week, things were not getting better and this is when the excruciating pain happened the first time - I think I tried to describe it above - the whole side of my face was literally "electrically ablaze" and this lasted for what seemed to be an eternity such that my only option was basically to try to "laugh" about it.......after a few minutes while I was squirming around in bed, it finally began to diminish. Then, it seemed slowly but surely over the next week or two that my tooth was healing and things seemed to get better. But, it was just a short reprieve and then the pain began to return in earnest, to the point where I decided - hells-bells I need to go back to the dentist. I was out of town, so I made the appointment for 5 days hence.
Unfortunately, a day or two after this the pain began to rapidly get worse. It reached the point that I tried to contact a local dentist for an emergency visit, but they all were closed heading into a long weekend....I began to be distraught about the miserable few days I had ahead of me - by this time I couldn't really even chew and eating was "torture" even if I tried to eat everything on one side of my mouth - if the littlest piece of food touched the miscreant tooth a jolt of pain was delivered above and beyond the residual pain that remained at all times. I said to my wife, well maybe I'll lose a few pounds, but I was truly starting to be concerned because I'd never felt this sort of pain.
This is the moment I think my guardian angel must of took mercy upon my hapless self and I was able to go online at a "medical site", and type into a form, and get a prescription for an antibiotic without actually having to go to any medical establishment physically. I'm sure it has been more than 10 years since I last took an antibiotic, I generally prefer to let my body heal on its own, but I was desperate. The prescription was called into the pharmacy and I was able to get it for $7.03 a few moments before the pharmacy closed shop for the day. It was a Friday. I took the first pill - it was a big one.....and that evening we had guests over, but after trying to eat some ziti which took me about 30 minutes, I had to depart from the guests and go to lay down - my brain was truly getting weary and there was nothing to be done to stop the pain.
I had basically a "sleepless" evening (once again) and got out of bed so as not to keep my wife up at about 2:00 am.....I transferred myself into our recliner and sat there for 2 hours with the side of my face so freaking uncomfortable........and then that is when I felt it with my tongue......I felt what I had seen in images during many searches to try to understand what was going on....and when I felt it, somehow I knew it was a good omen. You see the pus that must of been at the very bottom of my molar's roots and finally found a way out towards the gums when up to that time it was just stuck there and building in pressure and pushing against all the nearby nerves. I looked in the mirror and sure enough the swelling the gum behind the offending tooth was evident...and then I went back to the recliner and finally got an hour or two of shuteye......when I awoke, I could tell some pressure had been reduced, and in fact, when I looked in the mirror, not only was the gum swollen, but there was blood/ooze that had been released. It is Monday now and my appointment is tomorrow, but the pain is basically gone - just like that.
So, all evidence indicates I had a tooth abscess, but it was made worse because for weeks on end there was nowhere for the pus from the infection building up to go....when pressure builds up, eventually something has got to give. It is a fact of life. I don't know if the antibiotic made the difference or if what happened would have happened either way, but I'm inclined to think that without the antibiotic I would still be in miserable pain or possible about to go into sepsis or something much more severe, so I thank my Guardian Angel for coming to my rescue and I have been able to eat normally for a two days now and let me tell you - eating is even more pleasurable after being is such pain......so, I think there is a lesson in all of this for me, and thanks for being interested and if you have read all the way down to hear - thanks for letting me share my experience.
I hope when I see the dentist tomorrow, this chapter about a painful tooth will come to its close. I suspect I have a root canal in my future and to be honest I'm really looking forward to it - it might be unpleasant, but it will be nothing compared to what I've experienced direct, and usually a root canal is needed after one has an abscessed tooth - just to make sure there is no bacteria left to re-grow again....
~~~~~~end of tale~~~~~

Warm Regards,

Ken

This is a stunning story Ken - well done - thank you. Do let me know how the root canal goes. I have had two and actually I found them not so bad. The relief is a gift from heaven once the crown is put on. I must say I stand in awe of dentistry these days compared with my school dentist in the 1950s!

Go well dear friend and let me know how you plants grow! I'll see if I can get some pictures and put them in one of my Letters on a Garden Section - since it looks like a mystery so far. (can't put pics in the comments I guess)

Blessings

AP - and thank you for being my friend.

P&S - sometimes struggling seems un-inevitable - like inevitably unavoidable - case in point, I've been mentioning some teeth trouble I've been having lately, and it all came to a head this weekend and I posted a gross picture above showing the abscess in my tooth finally emerged after causing me so much pain - so much pain on the whole side of my face - almost like somebody poke a pointy barbed stick coated with live molten lava underneath my skin in three places at the same time while twisting them as they went in and out full of hot painful electrical harm....that is the best I can type it, but finally, the pus has emerged and I've decided to share an image of that above!!!!!!

Ha, ha.

Ken

ps - I got a feeling your beans will be fine, but I'll tell you this - I'm sick of the unusual cold weather around these hearn parts - oh well.....who control the weather one wonders....

PROTECT & SURVIVE's avatar

I replied to your later comment. Yes, I am concerned about the weather too - a most unusual spring, cold but maybe just a normal variation. Being a yachtsman I watch the weather everyday, track trends, and keep records. Not seen this in all the years. I shall do more research into weather controls.

P&S -

When it comes to "weather controls" (sometimes referred to as "geo-engineering") I used to be in the "skeptical" camp.....but lately, some of what I have learned has given me pause and makes me ponder....needless to say my skepticism has diminished.

At the end of the day, I think there are some tools that entail too much uncertainty to ever be safe or beneficial, but we all ought know, there are some individuals who will always use a tool if they think it will increase their power.......sadly, this is not a good recipe for the future.

There are so many things that need to be "re-balanced" because modern society seems to have lost touch with nature.....I'm concerned to hear about your beans not growing as normal....my intent is going to be to save seeds from past plants so that at least I can be sure where the seeds came from, but if weather is being manipulated or the soil contaminated due to deposition of materials intentionally sprayed.....oh boy....it makes everything so much harder for those of us who truly care about our neighbors and the environment. No doubt things are really "out of whack", but most of us didn't choose this - it is the actions of a few and they cause so much harm....they need to be stopped. Seems as if that is the "test of our times".

Warm Regards,

Ken

Yes indeed Ken - it is indeed testing times. I have never experienced anything like my beans this year. I have one stalwart at 2" but the others have all stopped growing. Being trained in science at my grammar school - to 'A' level - (I was to be a biochemist), but my life took a turn which found me working for for HMG War Office in 1960s - long story.

I know and love my plants Ken - and they are not happy. I talk to them - there's something I can't detect yet. I will keep you informed - no progress today - they just sit there as if in suspended animation.

I'm sick and tired of this cold spell cause I know it is holding the plants back, but I suspect there are going to be some crops and we will make the best of it whatever happens I reckon Marty.

Your friend,

Ken

Buffalo_Ken's avatar

Marty - there is this groundhog been eating some of the lettuce and recently started chewing on the beet leaves and I said to Pam....I said...honey - I think we got a groundhog issue here and sure enough yesterday the groundhog showed up again and Pam alerted me to the presence of it and I stopped what I was doing and I saw the groundhog thinking about eating the plants I'm trying to grow......and the groundhog saw me notice him or her and headed towards the street....I chose to circle around the house and see if I could catch the groundhog not expecting me to go in that direction and sure enough I saw the groundhog sitting under the porch at 104 and I thought I had that little critter captured. I was hoping to look it in the eyes again (I'm pretty sure it is the same one) and say to those beautiful eyes so endearing - come on groundhog - leave my plants alone.

But alas, the groundhog heard me coming I reckon and it was gone when I got there - Pam, who I was hoping was watching it all was busy at the time, and so this is not confirmed, but the groundhog got away this time. Next time I will catch it. It will either become my pet or maybe I'll make some groundhog soup out of it! If you got a recipe for that, let me know.

The reality is I don't mind the groundhog, I kind of enjoy it being around and I'm hoping I get to look it in the eyes again soon!

We are heading out tomorrow, but I'll be back soon enough and I'm really working hard to get the places up and going and it is good to have good neighbors - that is a truism in my book.

Keep an eye out please - that groundhog is still around....I don't mind it.
