It's been a few years since you wrote a lot of that. I think you could rewrite it and only the magnitude of manipulation would change but the tune remains the same.
When I re-read this (for the first time in awhile), I too felt like it remains relevant in the present day - in fact, maybe even moreso given the scale of "manipulation" as you refer to....
