So, I have already gone and messed up so to speak two parts of the repair effort - but maybe, just maybe it was meant to be?
I don't know for sure.....I'm halfway living in the moment and in another way wondering about the moment and in another way altogether separate from it all - as if watching it - thing is I know the two changes I made - they are permanent in a way....that is the difference twixt living a life in the minds of others versus living a life of determination and deliberation and doing what must be done.
I'm gonna solve the puzzle with six pieces - six hexagons - six sided each - perfect in imagination - I'm gonna solve that puzzle and then.....
You as well Bert all the time you have to check out all these places....sometimes it is good to get on your hands and knees and just try to make repairs.
I'm also going to finish the six piece hexagon puzzle and I know deep inside that that is why my mind exists.....plus, I'm gonna finish the story about Sally and the Navigator Bert....
When I set my mind to something, I might twirl around a bit, but I don't set my mind lackadaisical, oh no Bert - my mind is resolute - it happened when I came close to death and that changed me and since then my will has firmed in principle.
So I see you around at so many places and I wonder how you got the time to post all you do and seems to me if the internet goes down then it could be you will have some time on your hands - if so, remember what matters most - and really - twas only 30 years ago, or thereabout, the whole internet shit and smart devices came into existence, and frankly, in the mind of the Creator 30 years must be equivalent to a flee with a fungal infection on a gnats testicle.
Respectfully to a degree - but do you really know what I mean?
Before the internet I read more and shared with like minded friends. I post everything for free and have never asked others for money, I am blessed to be in a position where that is not necessary. My basic needs are met. Spreading the word and the truth are my main goal, perhaps making a few cyber friends along the way. If the internet goes away, I just go back to reading and writing like in the old days.
I do not doubt you tenacity or resolve in what you do and wish you well in your endeavors. Those near death experiences can indeed change us, I am old and have had many and each one has changed me profoundly. I understand that which does not kill us, makes us stronger. Peace be with you, Ken.
When I get on my hands and knees I mean business and I can scrape away mastic, place thinset, or pick up dog shit or wipe away piss when I'm on my hands and knees - I got no pride says I can't be on the floor - and it is not as if I enjoy it (necessarily), but I can do it and I plan on doing it in the future no matter whether there is an effing internet or not for eff sake Bert. I'll do the work that I am called to do.
So sorry if that seems a tad "attitudinal" but those of us from the GenX generation we know how to survive even if our kids seem hapless and the generation prior pathetic.
I let go my ego a long time ago and I did the best I could with the love of my life to raise our kids to be independent thinking and mammon means NOTHING to me - what matters to me is my home and my house and I will defend the place I've invested my blood sweat and tear to the death against anybody thinks they gonna harm my family.
We are more alike than we are different. You may just be a younger version of myself in some ways. We need to lead the next generation by example and hope for the best. After that, they are on their own and will have to live in the world they create.
For me and for you as well if I could be so bold to suggest - the effort of trying to repair or bring something back to what it was - that is half the value just in the effort and then in the process of doing it - so many lessons learned NYC Mom.....for me, a key lesson is to try not to do anything later on makes more work - so making mistakes is no big deal, and learning on the fly is sometimes the best way to learn - the key is to learn from mistakes made and then not to make them again.
When it comes to tile work however, I consider myself one well-practiced and I don't mind getting my fingers in the thinset - not one bit at all do I mind that in the midst of the effort to keep the beauty going and the effort strong and the quality long-term......but all jobs demand maintenance on occasion if one desires any permanence. I don't know - I've placed so many tiles over the years....it gives me joy placing little pieces in repair efforts - even if sometimes I eff things up a bit after the fact - I always make efforts to come back for the sake of remedy long-term. That is what I desire - long term remedy!
~
Smiles to you!

I should post a picture of the back porch we have out our place - my wife and I we got on our hands and knees together when mistakes were made but together we fixed that tile work and now it is almost part of who we are - the two of us together.
You know chalk paint isn't permanent unless you cover it with something that keeps it in place - such as polyacrylate with three coats deliberate and next time I have to do a chalk paint job, I'll do it better, but all in all, I like the chalk paint!
When it comes to cabinets best I know there is no "best solution", but when we together decided to endear ourselves upon this task mutually, my wife and I - we are a good team and we used a pressure washer initially on the cabinet doors to wash them thoroughly and then I did some wood repair jobs necessary after we sanded the cleaned doors properly and then painted three coats of the chalk style paint (2 hours dry time between coats) followed by three coats of polyacrylate (dry time respected twixt coats as well) and I know there are no guarantees, but once you start out on a job, then you might as well do it well is what I think cause what is the point of a lot of a labor if the work ain't done with love?
I'm sure there might be or have been "better ways" to do it, but if you don't do it yourself in the first place, then you will never know and for me this sort of work is way more fulfilling than any sort of bullshit job nowadays which might pay better but gives no satisfaction.
I've had my share of bullshit jobs to do and I'm fortunate we have no debts and now I prefer doing work proper and I got no problem getting on my hands and knees if that is what is demanded to do the job proper.
I'm the kind of fella I suspect when push comes to shove that you might want as a neighbor - at least that is what I strive to be - and if was in NYC - I'd be thinking about getting away from that place - just to be totally honest about it - cause unless there are more good folks there than meets the eye - living in the city is going to be hell if folks don't realize sooner rather than later - we need to work together.
Sorry for that long, so long link, but I don't mind paying for quality material especially for any job that is mostly labor intensive.
But - the fact of the matter is my wife implored me to go with the "painting option", and um.....I ain't a fool. Sometimes tis best to abide implorations (ha, ha) from one's wife and love of life!

You are fine NYC Mom - thanks for coming around here and sharing thoughts and ideas.
So, in all seriousness, if you are looking for a place to make your own "getaway", then southwest Virginia has much to offer and property there can be acquired for a dime on the dollar versus a big city like NYC.
The folks there are "real" (not woke in general), nobody is perfect of course, but if you went there with good spirit in mind and a desire to work hard making a place fine - then that would be my suggestion - biased though it may be....
Mind ya - I won the "wife-hollering" contest for Greyson County and I didn't even try to hard, but ........ha, ha...well....I recommend the place - especially for folks already handy and willing to work to make a place a home.
~
You really got me talking, but I'm an open book in a way, and I think truly that together we are better and that peace is easy.
I'm sure you will find a place where your skills will reach their potential cause it seems you already are heading in that direction - me too....really....one day at a time I'm on my way towards better times for me an my family, my neighbors, friends found, friends lost, and all that happens one way or the other.
So - best wishes for you. May your dreams come true!
Oh my goodness gracious me - you gonna get me talking.....(ha, ha).
Um....my honey and I - our kids are all grown up - two daughters is what we made together and they have both moved out of the home direct. My oldest daughter, even though this is a great mystery to me, she went to my alma mater after her undergraduate studies and now after graduating with her Masters degree in horticulture from NC State (she made straight A's - top notch she is). Now she is a fine high school teacher in Durham, NC and she is the light of my eye and I'm so proud to be her papa.
My youngest daughter is a fearsome force undeniable and she and I have a deep abiding awareness of each other and she is on her way to getting a Master's certificate in helping autistic children learn - she and I are like salt in water and oil on top and the energy we share with each other is hard to put into words. She is the other light in my eye and I love her so. She is fearsome, strong willed, and she and I are very similar in temperament.
Our Getaway Place in is in Fries, VA and our home place is in Charlotte, NC, but the Getaway may become the main place for my wife and I and we have two houses adjacent there on purpose and we have been frugal our whole lives and we have no debts and this is what allows me to enjoy my fancy on my hands and knees while my wife continues her career as an elementary school teacher (2nd Grade). In my humble opinion, all the kids have her as a teacher - they ought consider themselves blessed cause my honey is the best teacher out there bar none.
If you are looking for a place to settle down and live easy, then let me suggest Fries, VA where homes can be acquired for much less than the inherent value they have still - at least compared to a place in NYC.
But I understand the value of "home" and the value of being in the place you call home, but I'd rather be somewhere more rural and somewhere laid back versus in the big city - but that is just me....
For awhile I was seeking somebody to be the caretaker of our other place getaway, but now, I just think I will finish all the work I've done there - day-by-day, slowly but surely, and it will be rustic, but I will know the place and all its crevices and nuances and aspects and considerations it has to offer - and I will know it is well made and that I did my share to make it shine in a way in rustic beauty.
I'm gonna solve the puzzle with six pieces - six hexagons - six sided each - perfect in imagination - I'm gonna solve that puzzle and then.....
let the chips fall where they will!
May the best ideas prevail is what I think.
Not kidding around.

You are a busy and talented man.
You as well Bert all the time you have to check out all these places....sometimes it is good to get on your hands and knees and just try to make repairs.
I know what you mean.
I'm also going to finish the six piece hexagon puzzle and I know deep inside that that is why my mind exists.....plus, I'm gonna finish the story about Sally and the Navigator Bert....
Do you doubt I'll do this?

Hey Bert - my guess is you are a Doctor.
Man - you got your place and I bet the neighbors are glad you are around.
I'm not a doctor official, but I do have plenty of hydrogen peroxide on hand - just in case and such!
Bless you Bert!

Wife’s a Nurse Practitioner I am a retired operating engineer. I ran the steam sterilizer for the surgical instruments. It was a great experience.

I'm going to post a picture of the back porch taken just now - tis 12423 now and the time is 1247 and the world is in need of remedy no doubt.

I've got one more thing to say - I just looked up "Rubio monocoat" - and hells-bells that would be what I ought to have used if we, my wife and I, decided to go with the "staining" option versus the "painting" one. https://www.amazon.com/Rubio-Monocoat-Plus-Liter-Black/dp/B08TC15TKK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?hvadid=410027411416&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9009993&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=16366322468507679559&hvtargid=kwd-19074959623&hydadcr=8430_11337131&keywords=rubio%2Bmonocoat&qid=1701795328&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1
