Grounded
The plants have been placed lovingly....now I can rest a bit easier
Today is Sunday, the day after the Kentucky Derby, and I’ve decided to make an exception to my “Monday” posting schedule - a one-time exception (maybe). But, I can’t deny I’m feeling at least a little bit of satisfaction at finally getting the plants into the ground proper at our getaway place - and man the Kentucky Derby race was fun to watch!
I’ve worked hard on this and it is in the record - I mean truly - this is why I started my SubStack place and that was an idea I had last year that I only realized this year was a good option to pursue. I like to share ideas and I like to express myself. I like to do it with “no strings” attached, but there always are strings I reckon. Not all strings are problematic - as long as you are aware of them!
So, as an aside, something I’ve posted at another place, one thing I like to encourage to all others is this simple thing: Don’t be a puppet!
Please don’t take that the wrong way, if you do, you might still sort of be a puppet to some thoughts, but truly, the world has too many puppets these days, so don’t be one of them. OK? We need to think for ourselves for things to get better for all of us. Easier said than done I know, but we need to do it.
So, if you check back a few articles, I posted a figure that showed roughly the four garden areas that we have here and I discussed my plans for those areas many weeks ago. Well - here is how things sorted out.
This is Garden #1 - you may have seen it before in previous posts and I added a few little pepper sprouts, two okra, a cucumber I think, a baby basil, and a little cherry tomato plant I had saved from last year literally - it is a bit stringy but it is alive and I think it has strong roots.
If memory serves, this Garden #4. This garden image is not easy to decipher if one looks close at all the fencing that is there. But the greyish shorter fence is meant for vine-like plants to grow up upon and then work their way back down, and then who knows where they might go. So the plants of that nature in this garden included cucumber, squash, and zucchini. Also planted in this garden is another cherry tomato plant saved (it is in the front corner) as well as other tomato plants, a basil plant that might be hidden, a few little pepper sprouts long suffering, and some okra near the foundation. The tan-colored coverage in the garden is some grass I dropped there after I mowed the lawn over the last few weeks.
OK, this is Garden #2 I think - it has been expanded since last year and it is just “more of the same” here in this garden although I think it is fair to say the soil is easier to work than Garden #4 and time will tell if that makes a difference.
Here is Garden #3 which I have been working on for many months. I think it was last fall when I dug up the grass and put down the stone and this garden was intended to be the pepper garden from the get-go. It has a slope. It also has essentially all the different types of peppers I’m growing in rows (I did put some of the sprouts into the other garden areas). The peppers include: Sweet Chocolate (1st row in image), Banana (2nd row), Jalapeño (3rd…you get it right?), Tabasco, Sweet, Cayenne, and then Ghost pepper. Next year when I plant peppers again (God-willing) - I intend on them being bigger, but I can say this already - they seem to super appreciate their new setting, so I am hopeful I will have some pepper to offer up this season. I worked hard for those pepper sprouts and I didn’t waste a one of them - I kept my commitment to tend them as best I could and even though I was tired, I planted every last one that had even a slim chance. I suspect some of them are not going to make it yet, but some of them seem to me like they are going to live - so eff you aphids.
Today is Sunday April 7. One year and one day from today, there is going to be a total eclipse in Buffalo and I plan on being in the area then.

Can’t wait Ken we are going to kill I’m with our goods. For now marty
Good News - while I ain't there presently, tis raining at my getaway place assuming one can believe the radar images - I consider that good tidings for the plants planted.
Two days of sun are predicted after today sprinkling and that bodes well for the plants just planted.
I may not be there in person, but I'm still watching.
