Edit - tis 51324 1649 - I planted at least half the plants today.
Oh my - peppers abundant maybe? One can hope for a better future - I’ll get the rest in the ground tomorrow I hope - and meanwhile - I have some “counter” work going on next door….not kidding around.
In the imagery from the song below….not kidding - tis true.
What you make of that? I think it means many understood for along time about a place gonna be in the future no doubt.

I’ve been working hard getting the soil ready for the major planting that will be occurring over the next few days. In one garden area, grass and other flowers emerged, but I mainly just left it all “fallow” I think is a word for it - it was basically unattended and allowed to “do whatever came natural”…..(smile). But in that area I got out a fairly simple but rugged hand-tool and the weather was pleasantly cool and the soil was supple. The plants let themselves be removed with little resistance, but it was still good exercise (the dirt is heavy) and I also recovered the stepping stones that had been set last season. In the “other” garden area, all I did was cut down the taller stuff, but I decided to leave most of the ground cover.
Here are some images for reference along with a bit of commentary.
~~
This is the “newer” garden area first planted last season, and as stated above, all I did in here was cut down the “taller stuff” and clear around the stepping stones.
~~
This year I decided to create a connected “path” between the two openings in what I would refer to as the “main garden area” with the upper portion sloped down towards the bottom area. The soil here is super easy to work within…..part of me suspects in “old days” this area may have been associated with some septic equipment - who knows, but the soil now - all I can say is the birds were really watching me close and yesterday some big robins were around getting the easy worms.
~~
One thing that was “joyful” was in the process of clearing stuff away, I found some cilantro that returned basically “on its own” in the same spot one plant showed up by itself last season after I have planted some direct the previous season and just let it go to coriander. If this keeps up, I’ll have the cilantro I need year after year - and that is good cause it is one of the critical ingredients in the salsa recipe I learned from my neighbor. Another wonderful thing was I found some onions as well that look like they may grow bigger - and onions are also in the salsa recipe. It is very small in the “onion image” above, but I also found some pepper seedlings in a container I used last year and they had sprouted amazingly - so I tried to save them and planted them near the onions - I have no idea if they will survive or what type of pepper they may be.
~
Lastly, this shows the plants that will be planted over the next few days (God Willing), a backed out view of the one garden area, and the two overwintered “momma plants” in the simple greenhouse because it has been cool in the evenings here, respectively. On one of the mommas when I was checking her out yesterday, I said to her - you know what - I’m going to pick these peppers off of you - there were seven scraggly ones - and I went on to say - why don’t you focus on growing some nice leaves for the new season - I’m sure you got plenty more babies to make. I think she was “pleased” that I saved her some energy trying to grow peppers a bit too early in the season.

So, as I said above:
Gardening is Good for the Mind, the Body, and the Soul
Happy Sunday May 12, 2024 (51224). The time now is 11:30 am (1130).
~~~~ an edit out of respect ~~~~
For all the fine Mothers out there on the day in the us of a called “Mother’s Day” - I send this image out to you as a corollary about effort and a house and a home - about an effort to maintain value - so for my wife, who is a mother - I celebrate her today on Mother’s Day in an effort to bring these counters back to quality presentation and functional beauty as well - my wife is not my mother, but she is the mother of our two children. So - I respect that - I respect her. She is the mother of our children.
Prep work is done on the counter - I got the goods to turn this counter into something special and I intend on finishing the job with respect.
(as I said I would do)
Here is some music I appreciate and it has sort of been confirmed - the above message was and is “fake” - I can spot this shit a mile away…
Peace,
Wonderful pics yet again Ken, and I learn so much from you. I had 4 plots, 10m x 10m in my smallholding in the 1970-80s. I rotated each year, leaving one fallow, and added horse manure and lime (clay soil) plus potash from my garden bonfire in winter before bringing the fallow to planting. I followed guidance from John Seymour :
"First published in 1978, this revised edition of an old favorite gives you all the knowledge and expertise to create your self-sufficient garden. This unique guide explains how to cultivate and preserve all types of fruit, herbs, and vegetables, in addition to instructions on keeping bees, making cider, and raising chickens. Whatever your space, you’ll discover how to garden organically and maximize your harvest without the need for radical change in your lifestyle. It worked a treat for 25 years. And yes, Gardening is nature's mind medicine.
