Fries, VA - Our Getaway Place (Edited & Updated)

Here is a Status Update - tis 10424 1452.....Post Edited With Updated Info Regarding the Horrific Suffering This Event Has Caused in Western, NC and Eastern, TN - my heart and prayers go out to them.

So a few images showing what it looks like after a major flood event in Fries, VA. It is evident that our Getaway Place experienced a flood, but that the harm here while not trivial is not even comparable to what has happened to others in Appalachia (See Video at the end of the article).

I can tell you that ain’t how it used to look - and you see the damage there don’t ya?

There you go - yes indeed the channel to the turbine is full of sand, silt, and debris - the turbine ain’t going to be operating until this gets removed - and that is a big job to do properly.

There is damage on the “retaining wall” where water used to flow into a channel into a turbine, but now rumor has it the channel is full of sand, and look at the retaining wall - erosion occurred there during the flood event no doubt.

This is our front porch. The town is built along the New River and most homes are well above any flood plain cause the river bank rises steeply.

This is the “Ghost Mama” - She is almost 3 years old and I dug her out of the ground this morning. See below for where she is now:

I’m going to over-winter her again - I hope she is with me in the Spring.

So - check this out - you are unlikely ever to see in the history of the NFL a report saying the top receiver has “minus 2” yards….I guess “catching the pass” take precedence in this statistic, but the receiver been advised not to catch that ball.

How bout that - and don’t forget - twas the Highlanders came out of their places safe won the battle of Kings Mountain and then went on to Cowpens to deliver the double envelopment - and history sometimes repeats, but no doubt - the folks form the hills are not to be trifled with and when you leave us to survive on our own wits - know this we will and you will wish we were on your side.
