There are so many ways to keep a house lit with little expenditure of energy.
Getting practice is the closest thing to the real thing - I'm glad the power is back, but I'm happy in hindsight that it went out - cause I learned some important lessons. I'll share one of the most important:
~
The way the cords were plugged in for our fridge and freezer in the garage was a pain in the ass that an older man would not have been able to resolve - so I've remedied that - cause next time it ought be easier to just plug them into generator power and I'm thinking of acquiring a larger propane tank - why the hell not....power has gone out twice now in a matter of weeks - I knew when I read about Acapulco that I best get me a generator.

Changing gears - the efforts by South African authorities to bring the rogue nation of Israel to account is most laudable and I hope it gets support worldwide cause what are we if we don't defend innocence?
Thanks, Ken - this is one reason why I support SA. The ANC were originally 'terrorists' fighting their oppression and finally won; they have a heritage of resistance and I support that. OK, they are not angels but who are these days?
I plan to get off-grid ASAP and we are well on the way. I will be writing a 'Special' Letter from SA this month explaining how we manage here and when/how we plan to be independent of the central government. It is impossible in the UK.
"Failing to plan is planning to fail" as I am sure you know very well Ken.
I got more to say about battery banks - I "flushed" this idea in my mind seriously 17 years ago or so and so why the hell not share what I was thinking - no harm in that and this story ain't told yet. There is more.
Wonderful stuff Ken, many thanks. And yes we know about solar/batteries in SA!
Power went out yesterday and is still out. I’m getting generator practice in - that might be a good thing.
Best to you,
Ken
Yes, Ken - we have outages all the time because of Eskom load-shedding - but it's no worry. Like you, we have battery backups and special bulbs with a battery that keeps shining when the power is out! I never knew about these things until the other day: https://ledtronix.co.za/index.php/9w-intelligent-emergency-bulb.html?sfdr_ptcid=26335_617_667593826&sfdr_hash=f4869d48ff38bd53ac1ea06bd2e4ed53&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwP6sBhDAARIsAPfK_wYsLrLEHBGyqDkRei8IotcKyeHl6n9vgZJOIk903eM9ZN2jxcj5L1waAmZyEALw_wcB
